Going round in bunting circles!

Carry on with my homemade interior makes, this small blog looks at a really easy £0 make!

For £0 you can easily make some Circle Bunting. I’ve used this to dress a curtain that separates the kitchen from the living room. With the ceiling been so high, and the curtain and wall both white, its a large white space with no details or textures. I experimented with a few items, fairy lights, hanging decorations etc. but all just didn't seem right.  So, to keep with a theme in the living room I took the idea of the original pom pom bunting, and kept the circle/ball shape as a starter.

The bunting is really easy to make, first you do need a Sewing machine (If you don’t have a machine try attaching twine or thread to the back of the circle cut outs with tape). For the circles anything can be used, old cards, wrapping paper, felt, anything that will give the finish you want. I had some odd bits of paper from Christmas card making lying around so used the gold and pearl card. Cut the circles to your desired sizes, then on the lowest simple setting on your machine push them through. You can be as neat or as un-neat as you like, it really doesn’t matter, I went for un-neat just so it wasn't such a sharp line of circles. Make sure you leave some thread at the end for you to hook around what ever you are attaching it to. Then when finished, drape it, hook it, hang it where ever you want. 

Something like this is great for events or parties, for a wedding lots of white circles, or use matching card for a party, laminate the circled before sewing for outdoor buying as well! Iv posted some images that inspired me from Pinterest below, they are all shop bought bunting, mainly Etsy, but you can see how easy there are1 to make. Hopefully these colours and textures will get your creative juices flowing!

(Making a house a home - Part 2) Rented home fun - key holder

Its slowly coming up to a year of me and Dan living in our flat, way back when we had lived here a few months I did a blog looking at some  makes I had done, just to add our touch to the place. (Part One home blog). Since then I have added a few more touches to the place!

Living in rented accommodation you have to find ways around making the place yours. This can be anything from a colourful throw or fresh curtains.  The past year I have been working amongst interiors so have picked up ideas along the way which have inspired me for ideas in the flat. I have a few simple ideas to share with you which over the next few blogs, in the meantime why not check out the ladies over at A Beautiful Mess have a few more renting ideas '30-renter-friendly-dig-ideas' 

My first little make was some where for me and Dan to put all the keys we seem to have collected! 

I wanted to create a welcoming space to hang our keys. I had some frames from a job lying around so I decided to use one of these to create the idea. Below is my little step by step of what I ended up with.

I had seen a really cute welcome sign on Pinterest so took the basic font idea from that. These little labels where really simply made, white card measured into 5x10cm tun cut out. To add the label hole detail, I used a hole punch and outlined it to make more of a feature.

To incorporate my welcome sign into the frame I used twine, I like how it slightly matches the gold finish on the frame as well.

Because I can't hammer anything into the walls I used these awesome 3M Hooks. I've come across these whilst working with Pippa Jameson. They are a great way to adda  hook to anywhere within your home, without damaging the walls. Pippa has some great blogs here about using the 3M products. They don't only sell hooks, they offer picture hanging strips for frames, poster strips, and a large range of hooks, great for the rented accommodation! And they are very simply used, the above picture you see the sticky tab that is attached to the hook and the the wall.

The next step is to secure the hook to the wall with a firm push, and leave it there for about 30mins before hanging items.

Because we have that many keys I went for three hooks, these hooks Ive used you can find here. There are many more sizes, colours, styles available and you can pick them up in most DIY stores as well.

So this is my finished key holder display. Like I said its simple, but it does the job and adds interest to the empty space above the shoe holder. Also means keys aren't lying around the house anymore!

Homemade Christmas

So feeling home sick last weekend I got on a mission to make the flat feel more Christmassy. Hunting around the shops for Christmas decorations was fun, but then money became a bit tight and Dan wouldn’t let me spend £12 on some more baubles so I decided to make some decorations myself. The tree went up nice and early on the 4th December so since then iv being adding to the tree and the flat with little bits but last weekend I went all out and made the decorations which are in the pictures below, somewhere salt dough, some where 3D shapes and some where just me wanting to inject as much a of Christmas into everything possible! I also got Dan helping me out with some of the buts which is first for him, as he isn’t very arty, more numbery. 

With the tree up and  around making me feel more Christmassy I took to watching some of my favourite films over the past few weeks to get in the mood. Now just under a week before I venture back up north, and for the big day I’m feeling very festive :)

 Little star gift tags for presents

 Heart shapped door hanger, love this little button that iv sewed on, i picked it up years ago when i was in Nottingham once and wanted to use it for something ever since, I finally found something yey!!

 I bought some red tulips from a florist when coming home from uni last week, i thought they looked cute but where still a little bit boring so when i went for my run i went to the park nearby, and yes, although i may have a looked a bit suspicious i went and picked up a few little twigs and then sprayed them gold when i got home. Dont worry i mega cleaned them, just incase of any pesky doggies! And then theres my little charity shop vase i got for £1.50 with some poundland LED lights added, brightens up the table :)

 These little fellas where from my friend Jen the other year, their called Choki Ori and are a easier type of orgami,theres loads of animal that you can make but i felt reindeers where more appropiate for Christmas

 

 Ok, so like i said iv watched a few films, although some of these are more modern there some of my fav Christmas films and the design in them are ace, i love How the Grinch Stole Christmas for how interesting his little cave is made to look, all the inventions, collectable things create such a great space. I also love Max the dog, steals the show!

 Who can have Christmas without watching Harry Potter, well I cant! just check out some of the imagery from Philospohers stone, love how festive it is. Every year i watch probably all the films and this year on my wish list is the full box set, which when I come back to London after being home and Dans at work im gona be watching them all, along with some butterbear muffins that im trying to make, ill tell you about them next time!
