Having worked in the past for Bompas&Parr, working
under designer Rhea Thierstein, I couldn’t wait to go to their recent public
exploration of food, senses and craziness, I also took along my two girls Sarah
and Zita.
Bompas&Parr is an amazing company specialising in jelly
moulds, food inspiration, architecture and many more things, all started by Sam
Bompas and Harry Parr. The work they do is so creative and innovative, from
the jelly moulds of Buckingham Palace to the crazy golf installation on top of
Selfridges, London. Have an in-depth look at more of their work on their
website here. Whilst your there why not check out the event I worked on as a
set dresser, A Culinary Odyssey.
Back to their most recent installation; The IncrEdibles at
Kew Gardens. The main attraction, a huge pineapple in the middle of the Kew
Gardens boating lake. Including a passage underneath which took you on a short
journey into an cryptic world of bananas. Sounds weird doesn’t it? And it was, a
wonderful, unique and incredible experience! If
you got chance to visit the massive pineapple installation then, how cool!!?? It really did explore your sense when travelling underneath the pineapple. The
smell of bananas was so intense, with it been one of my favourite flavours I was in
heaven! We was also giving some 3D glasses, which turned it into hypnosis by
bananas experience! I got out and all I wanted to do was drink banana
milkshake, for like a week! I also got to work on my past rowing skills, which
I must say, were a little rusty! But me and the girls ended up like pros on
that lake!....
Other than the installation on the lake there was also a
range of different installations around the gardens and also the continued
delights of the wonderful Kew Gardens itself.
Hope you enjoy my photos and it tempts you to take a look at
this marvel just on the edge of London in Richmond. (Sorry if the lighting and everything is a bit random, just getting used to a new improved camera).
If you missed out, fear not, The IncrEdibles has extended up
until the 3rd November with an Autumn theme, sadly with no pineapple
though.
Check out the Kew Gardens website for more info here.
